“MICHAEL VICK” : LET THEM DOGS FIGHT

Posted by HG on July 27, 2007

**UPDATE. YBB HAS MOVED. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE NEW SITE OR GO TO YOUBEENBLINDED.COM**

The homeboy Eskay at Nah Right put me on to this song. First things first, it’s not actually Michael Vick rapping, it’s not a Bad Newz remex. It’s more than likely this dude, and the song is idiotic to say the least. It doesn’t matter which side of the argument you’re on regarding the Vick situation, making a song about electrocuting dogs is ignorant. Don’t believe me?

“Mike Vick” Let Them Dogs Fight

Told ya… When it comes to the Michael Vick case I didn’t tell ya. I thought it was suspicious that the feds were saying an indictment was unlikely, but I believed them when they told the league and the Falcons that no indictment was coming. That was dumb. They were leaving the door open for the eventual indictment. More on this soon..

RAKIM AND JERRY RICE 2K8

Posted by HG on July 1, 2007

I like the combination of the God and the G.O.A.T. What this will do for 2K8’s sales? I have no idea. I rarely play video games anymore but in my day I was a Madden guy. There was a time in the late 90s when I experimented with NFL Gameday, and I played one of the 2Ks for an evening, but Madden was still the one.

I don’t play video games anymore because I suddenly became a cool adult. No more days of sitting around for hours on end playing video games with friends or strangers online. Nope, now I hang out for hours on end in the cool confines of my parents basement, wearing only my underwear, typing about sports or the latest video game commercial. I’m all grown up now.

What up to Nah Right Lite..

BERNIE KOSAR PICKS CHARLIE FRYE OVER BRADY QUINN

Posted by HG on June 20, 2007

bernie-jim.jpg

What do you do when you’re a retired quarterback? You offer your opinion on who should be the starting signal caller for your former team. At least that’s what Bernie Kosar does:

‘‘People think because me and Charlie (Frye) are friends that’s why I feel like he’s ready. But just because I like (Frye) doesn’t make him a good quarterback. There’s no correlation. I just thought he did a great job dealing with all the problems the Browns went through last year.’’

Ok, Bernie and Charlie are friends.. That’s cool..

‘‘I think he played great to play average. There was so much that went wrong last year: The running game was non-existent, there wasn’t very good pass protection, guys dropped balls, the offensive system changed in the middle of the year — there were just so many obstacles to overcome. And I thought Charlie did a good job with it.’’

All right Bernie, it sounds like your leaning towards Frye but what about Brady Quinn?

‘‘There couldn’t be a worse-case scenario for a first-year quarterback to start. The Browns are certainly improved from last year. But with Romeo (Crennel) needing to win after a rough season, a new offensive system coming in, not to mention Brady has to learn the differences from college to the NFL — it’s just a very difficult situation.’’

I’m with Bernie when he says Crennel needs to win this year. Romeo’s gonna need a pretty good season to save his job imo. I agree that there’s an adjustment period for rookies. I’m not quite sure what a new system has to do with Brady Quinn.. He didn’t play in the old system. It’s possible Kosar means that a collective offensive unit would benefit from a more experienced quarterback when learning a new offense… Or he’s slightly hatin’. Either way, Brady played for the genius Charlie Weis in a pro style offense. Shouldn’t he be able to pick up on anything?

‘‘I was really well-coached in college. And the same could be said for Brady, coming from Charlie Weiss’ offense at Notre Dame. But you could also say that because that offense was so advanced, Brady didn’t have to deal with a lot of the problems other quarterbacks did.’’

Jeezus.. Brady Quinn should be thanking his lucky stars that Kosar wasn’t around on draft day. Brady might not have gone until the second or third round if Bernie had his say.

TOM BRADY RENTS, DOUG FLUTIE BUYS

Posted by HG on June 18, 2007

After failing to sell his condo, which was listed at $16.5mil, Tom Brady has decided to lease it out. According to reports, Tom has rented the 2,910 square foot unit in New York’s Time Warner building to a financier for 60 grand a month. Brady put the house on the market 3 mos. after buying it for $14mil, and it is expected to go back on the market next year.

Not to be outdone, Doug Flutie got into the real estate game. He picked up a new house for $2.1mil in Melbourne Beach, Florida. It’s his childhood hometown, and the house is rumored to look something like this.

THE BIG THREE

MLB

Bud Selig wants Jason Giambi to talk to the MLB steroid busters “or else”. Or else what Bud? You’re gonna suspend Jason Giambi for talking about something that happened in the past, that he already kinda admitted to, for what? I’m not even sure where this steroid scandal investigation is going. If every player that ever used steroids came forward today and admitted it, then what? Nobody is gonna shutdown MLB.. And MLB officials might not have been doing the roids, but they were well aware of what was going on. The new rules are in place, so it’s time to focus on current steroid users, the dummies that slip up now. Threatening punishment for Giambi is lip service that really serves no purpose. Let’s look forward instead of living in the past.

NBA

Baseball is known as the “numbers” sport but Jason over at Ball Hype has picked up where Bill Simmons and John Hollinger left off for basketball statistical analysis. Breaking down who was the best player for every ten year period of the league from ’51-’61 to ’97-’07 was a great idea and produced some interesting results. The rankings are based on Hollinger’s PER formula and most of the names you would expect to see there are there. If you take a look at the total number of ten year spans dominated by MJ, only centers Chamberlain, Jabbar, and O’neal are in his class. Guys like Olajuwon, Malone, and Garnett have the misfortune of playing in eras dominated by bigger stars.

NFL

Pacman Jones’ ill-fated trip and “rain making” at a strip club during the NBA All-Star weekend was one of the reasons he ended up being suspended for the season by new NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Yesterday the news broke that Jones’ DNA tested negative, twice, when compared to DNA obtained from a stripper that was bitten during the February fracas. So the DNA doesn’t match and you have Lt. George Castro saying that the police still have not connected what happened inside the club to the shooting that took place outside of the club. If Adam Jones is cleared of everything except for being a 81k idiot, will/should the NFL reduce his suspension?

STEPHON MARBURY’S FATHERLY ADVICE

Posted by HG on June 12, 2007

starburyshoe2.jpg

I admire what Stephon Marbury is doing with his $15 dollar shoes. People talk about “keepin it real”, that’s keepin it really real. Some of the on the court criticism of Steph is of his own creating, but I think he takes a lot flack just for being Stephon Marbury. When I think of Starbury, I think of Georgia Tech, what could have been with a Marbury/Garnett combo, and New York City.. The one thing I don’t think of is parenting advice.

A potato in the bed with a sick kid? String on the head for hiccups? I hate getting the hiccups.. I wonder if the string thing works for grown folk?.? Anyways… I found a list of some more Marbury medical tips for parents.

  1. An empty glass next to the bed stops bed wetting.
  2. “Hair of the neck of Gooden” is wonderful for pink eye.
  3. Driving a child around in a Bentley clears up Chicken Pox.
  4. Scoring 30 against the Bucks helps in the fight against childhood obesisty.
  5. Playing X-Box reduces swelling.

Steph caught up with Randy Moss 3 days before Moss was moved to New England. Think that had anything to do with Randy saying Tom Brady is the quarterback he most wanted to play with? Naaahh..

I have never seen Marbury’s show  even though it was first brought to my attention (The Stephen A. diss) a few months ago by True Sports Fans via Deadspin.

SHEFFIELD CLARIFIES, PORTIS CHANGES OPINION

Posted by HG on June 6, 2007

sheffield.jpg

Gary Sheffield and Clinton Portis have both been taking some heat for comments that they made recently. Sheffield got off the now infamous “Latin players are easier to control” blast while Portis dropped this nugget about Mike Vick’s dogfighting problems, “It’s his property; it’s his dogs. If that’s what he wants to do, do it.” Sheff tried to shed some light on where he was coming from while Clinton is singing a completely different tune.

Sheffield and the Tigers were getting ready for last night’s game against the Rangers when Sheffield offered this explanation:

“Every Latin player, you can’t control. I’m just saying from a whole grand scheme of things, they have more to lose than we do. You can send them back across the island. You can’t send us back, we already here so there’s a lot of factors involved that you look at. I’m not talking about them as, you know, you can tell them what to do and they are going to be ‘Yes sir, No sir.’ Nah, that ain’t how it works. I’m just saying from a grand scheme of things.”

I had a feeling that was the direction Gary was gonna go with his point and I agree with him to a degree. The fact that a team can tell a Latin player “get your shit together or we’re sending you back” is pretty powerful. Carlos Guillen agrees:

“I’m happy he said it. It’s the truth.”

Guillen’s take is similar to Gary’s.. He believes that MLB has more control over the Latin players due to the threat of being sent home. Education is also a factor to Guillen because U.S. players typically graduate high school and may attend college while many Latinos leave school at the age of 16 to sign with a team.

clinton-portis.jpg

Clinton Portis has changed his name to the running back formerly known as the dog fight supporter. He claims to have studied up on the subject and now has a different take:

“A couple of weeks ago, when I made those comments, I didn’t understand the seriousness behind it. I didn’t know it would affect that many people, didn’t think what I said was that offensive. But after doing research and seeing how serious people take this, I shouldn’t have made the comments.”

I want to believe Clinton but this sounds a little like “they” got to him. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he was embarrassed for Portis when he made his original comments in support of Vick. Then a statement was issued for by Portis shortly after his poor choice of words to calm the outrage but it didn’t work. He now claims to have seen the light:

“I had no idea the love that people have for animals or didn’t consider it when I made those comments. I’m not even a pets man. I’ve got a fish — that’s the easiest thing to keep up. I’ve never been into dogs, never dealt with dogs, don’t like playing with dogs. But at the same time there’s a lot of people who are crazy over pets.”

I’m not a big pet person myself, and I would probably go the fish route too, but making dogs fights isn’t only wrong, it’s dumb. I’m glad to see Clinton, or somebody close to him has figured out the right approach to the situation:

“From now on, I don’t comment on nobody.”

We’ll see about that.

The on again off again fling that is “Kush” is back on for the moment. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. If a picture can say a thousand words, then this collage is screaming something about 10,000 jimhats. I’m not saying Kim Kardashian gets around but, well, wait..Yes I am.

Props to the homeboy IFux for putting me on to this via A Hot Mess. The A Hot Mess link should be clicked for the Indian Michael Jackson Thriller video alone.

ANTONIO PIERCE POSSIBLY CALLING MIKE VICK A PUNK

Posted by HG on June 5, 2007

antoniopierce.jpgIt’s hard to hear NFL player and pit bull in the same sentence and not think of dogfighting. New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is trying to change that. Antonio Pierce is a pit bull breeder, he even says so at the bottom of his NYG player page, but he says his operation is above board:

“Anybody who fights pit bulls is a punk. It gives my dogs a bad rap. Everybody loves my dogs because they’re good dogs. So of course I’m not pleased with it.”

Antonio chose not to come right out and talk about Michael Vick but he did acknowledge that he’s aware of Vick’s problems. He even added that if the evidence against Michael Vick turns out to be true then the NFL and prosecutors “need to do what they need to do“.

Pierce has sold dogs to teammates and friends but he won’t sell you a dog unless he knows you and he’s positive the pit won’t be used in any illegal activities. Does that mean speeding with the dog in the car? Jaywalking while taking Fido out for a leak? I’m not sure, but it’s good to hear that at least one guy has his head on straight when it comes to dogfighting. I wonder if Pierce knew about Vick’s alleged treatment of dogs before this play:

It’s gonna be interesting to see what Antonio does for an encore on October 15th when the Giants are in Atlanta for Monday Night Football.

**YBB UPDATE** The news gets worse for Michael Vick. The house where the alleged dogfighting was taking place was robbed some time between May 7th and May 18th. The thief/thieves made off with 3 plasma televisions, two floor buffers, a wet/dry vacuum, an upright washer and dryer, and a leather sofa worth $17,550. It makes you think, if the dogs were still on the property would the house have gotten jacked? **END UPDATE**

NFL RUNNING BACKS KNOW THEIR OWN STATS

Posted by HG on May 25, 2007

Most of the athletes I’ve ever met can tell you all of their stats from damn near any game they ever played. Needless to say, I’ve never met Fred Taylor.. I found it incredibly fitting that the backs from the “U” were very up to date on themselves. Oh and Clinton, you’re a millionaire getting free shit, were you serious when you asked “you sure I can’t get two of these?”
