THE JR. NBA: JUST LIKE THE NBA, BUT SHORTER

Posted by HG on May 2, 2007

I consider myself a pretty big NBA fan and I never knew there was a Jr. NBA and a Jr. WNBA. Now I need to find out if there’s a Jr. NBDL and Jr. WNBDL. Is there even a WNBDL? Here’s more about the Jr. NBA and WNBA:

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA are sponsored by Gatorade and Nike and serve existing recreational youth basketball leagues through support programs for players, coaches, parents and officials, according to the program’s Web site. The league strives to promote development, teamwork, sportmanship and positive adult participation to prepare players for success off the court, too.

Just like the big NBA, Jr. NBA players find themselves in bad situations. Just ask 16 year old Jr. NBAer Habeam Wilder.

With his lawyer by his side, a 17-year-old boy surrendered to authorities and was charged with shooting a local Jr. NBA player last Tuesday. Police did not release the juvenile’s name, but said he was charged with attempted murder, aggravated and simple assaults, along with firearms violations for shooting 16-year-old Habeam Wilder in the arm and stomach with a shotgun. Wilder, a local player in the Jr. NBA and honor-roll student, was back at school even as he recovers from gunshot wounds.

Since Habeam seems to be ok, I guess it’s safe to ask.. Was he at a strip club with Stephen Jackson’s nephew, or simply at a late night mansion party with a 17 year old relative of Jayson Williams and the Jr. Globetrotters?
